Gustav was ordained an elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after his graduation from high school in 1965. He was sent on a proselytizing mission for two years in the states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Upon a successful completion of his missionary work he enrolled in Ricks College located in Rexburg, Idaho in 1967. Gustav transferred to Brigham Young University in 1969 having earned the credits for an Associate Degree at Ricks College. He majored in History and minored in the humanities. He continued his religious studies with real enthusiasm while at BYU. He learned Classical and Modern Hebrew during his undergraduate years there. His teachers were the best in the field West of the Mississippi.

Mr. Mahler’s Hebrew studies were but the beginning of a rich and rewarding future when he discovered the ‘Linear Bible Code’ years later. In 1973 Mr. Mahler married Patricia LeFevre. He is the father of two boys and one girl. Gustav and Patricia were divorced in 1983. Gustav remarried in 1984. He married Ruth Darlene Larsen who brought into their marriage two boys and two girls. Gustav and Ruth celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2009.

Mr. Mahler served his church well during the years up to 1983. He served in several lay positions such as Ward Clerk, Elder’s Quorum Counselor and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. In 1977 he published his first book entitled: “The Story of Joseph Smith’s Bible Translation, A Documented History.” Gustav had researched in minute detail the history Joseph Smith’s revision of the Bible. This led to his adding appreciatively to the known history of that enigmatic Bible revision. His research gave 2 him access to the all the original manuscripts of Joseph Smith. He was the first to examine in exacting detail these documents in over 100 years.
